i have a 20gal its not much but its all i can fit right now. im living with my mom and its in my room. i only have it cycling, last night i noticed the lack of sleep ive been getting because of the noise.

the water trickling and the lil motor inside of my aquaclear its driving me insane. im one of those ppl i guess who need silence to sleep.
anwho. i was wondering if its safe to turn off the filter at night..unplug it.. no noise. i only have feeder fish atm for the cycling, nothing im afraid of loosing.
does anyone have any suggestions besides unplugging all together, to muffle it maybe?

Interesting... There really isn't much you can do about the noise from the water/filters. Turning them off is the best/safe way to go. Good Luck though on getting a good night sleep. I went through the same thing when my parents moved my 75g into my room. 2 months later, I moved out!

so turning it off would be ok for the fish? im not worried about the feeders. im more worried when i stalk it what am i gonna do.. o_0;;

lol the only reason i got the tank in the first place was i work at the pet store and fell in love with krib's.. after that i really dont know what else. ^_^;

anyone else think its a good/bad idea to turn off the filter over night? i mean whats the worse that can happen right?

You cannot turn off your filters at night. You will compromise your bacteria colony living in the filter because the media will either dry out or go anerobic (without oxygen) killing your nitrifying bacteria.
When you cycle the tank (as you are doing now) you establish bacteria in the filter (as well as the gravel etc.).

If you need quiet, I suggest you get a cannister filter....
