With all that stuff, you shouldn't have to worry about killing your fish. Just make sure the solenoid (attached to the regulator) is plugged into a timer. DiY is no less stable, or more stable, just cheaper. For bubble counters all you need is an air tight small container, two holes in the top, one with rigid tubing below the water in the container, and you have a bubble counter. The reactors are easy to, but if he has them, and you can get them, go for it. Make sure you have a test kit that can test for KH (carbonate hardness), this will help you check you co2 levels.
thanks, just got off the phone with the discuss geek and he thinks it was a lack of o2 in his tank, with his discuss he already has the temp so high and was'nt running any o2 at night and leaving it running straight for those first few days, lol, he said he found a o2 test kit at one of or shops in town, and was getting an extremlly low read three time in a row,he took the whole system apart out of anger and now has a huge air stone running, lol he said that he had never seen such a change in the plants in those few days with co2 but now he is scared,I told him to fix the problem and give it another try,but he has about10-15 nice discuss and is scared to risk it again atleat until they are all acting normal, maybe he should drop the temp in the tank a bit,its up at 85,I know the discuss like warmer water but wouldnt they adjust to 80,that would be better for the plants too right, any way I may try and buy the system from him,so if I do you will be getting alot more questions

I think any pleco will go well in a planted tank EXCEPT the LDA65. They get too big, and would wreak havoc on your plants, not necessarily eating, but rather uprooting. I have a royal in my planted, as well as a bruno. I have also kept L018, L027, L047, L066, L090, L104, L106, L137, L177, L190, L191, L200, L203, L239, L264, L330, L333, rubberlips, chocolate, whiptails, and commons. As long as you supply the right environment for the plants, the plecos should not be able to kill them, with a few exceptions.

Dropping the temp would not help too much. A cheap timer, and bubbler at night will fix the problem partly. What is his KH reading at?

o another thing i just remembered, some plecs get really big and boistrous, and can get pretty good at uprooting plants, which you may want to consider if your going for a L025, as im sure they would do the job. i've had some of the bigger plecs i keep uproot even the best potted plants so...
reminds me of the time i got sick of my plants being eaten, and switched to fake plants. somehow my gibby managed to eat one of them. rediculous.
however red is a good contrast to the green plants.

Potted plants don't hold as well in the substrate, you should remove the pot, and let the roots take hold in the substrate. I have had an 18" common hit a plant that was well rooted and not uproot the plant. It was an anubia barteri roundleaf.

im not sure we chated for a while and I cant remember what he told me,I just got chewed out by his wife for calling when her kids are trying to sleep, haha,my day off is tomarrow and I thought it was the weekend, he told me what it was but im brain dead, he is always test ing everthing in that tank,I will know tomarrow he comes to the shop almost every day and twice a day when he has problems lol

What is his pH at? The interaction between pH and KH will determine how much CO2 is actually in the water. I try to keep my CO2 at 20ppms, which at 7.0 pH, is 8 degrees KH.

I think he said 6.5 is what he set it at,but he only use ro,is'nt the kh of ro 0? maybe its all the additive he is using?
