be careful what you get for a bottom feeder.i had a hoplo and believe me,it was so fat i thought it would burst.it never stopped eating.bichirs dont always go straight after their food,so,if you get a bottom feeder,it may eat the bichirs food before they get there.i would'nt get any bottom feeders if i were u.

How about apple snails? I have a friend that raises them. Would bichirs be able to bother these? I know they eat plants, but then I can use silk plants instead.

I'd suggest the ghost shrimp if you really want a bottom feeder. They're a bit entertaining, do a respectable job of eating small bits of forgotten food between the gravel, and Poly's love them. Since they continuously scavenge, they're always gut loaded & their shells provided good nutrients as a bonus.
