Questions about Barred Midas

My local LFS has this guy listed as a flowerhorn. Do you guys think this is a flowerhorn or a barred midas? I have a 75 gallon ready to go to start an African cichlid community but now I'm thinking about getting this guy instead. Do you think he's worth 20 bucks?

Not a flowerhorn, definitely a barred amphilophus species, possibly an amph hybrid though. Looks kind of like an Amarillo to me?

Fishes that size usually go for 60+ around here.

Yeah he's worth at least 20 bucks. If he actually is a pure species he'd be worth more like 60-100. If he's a hybrid, 20 is still good.

Looks like a Barred Midas possible hybrid, looks Healthy, IMO worth $20, good luck with a tank mate, I had one similar size in a 75gl & He didn't play well with others,

Yeah he looked mean. He didn't like it when I pointed at him and started ramming the glass. I didn't think there would be any chance of introducing a tank mate, maybe a female? How did you like having one? I never had a fish that looked like he would could bite off my finger before.

There are some people more well versed in amphilophus than I am. Aquamojo comes to mind, though i'm not sure how often he checks this site. Most of the barred species looks pretty similar to me, though I think it's plausible that this is an Amarillo based on the gold cheeks. His head-shape reminds me of my big male hogaboomorum, though my guy had reddish tint to his face and not yellow
