Questions about feeders to LFS

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've put alot of thought and time into researching breeding convicts but the way my reds have been goin through pellets, i don't see the point. I was skeptical at first because i didn't want to have a bag full of food that i had no use for but they love them.

there's not a lot of research involved in breeding convicts. All you need is a 20L, a male, a female, a clay pot, and H2O. Seriously one of the most prolific species kept in aquaria. They're really fun to keep too, but I guess I am the guy that traded piranhas in for a pair of the convicts cousins Archocentrus centrarchus.

Jack says my fish are feeders. :irked: I'll never live it down. I love to watch all the activity in my tank though, and the breeding behavior is amazing.

i have never had a fish that i couldn't switch over to non-live foods, some of them were tougher than others, but it's always worked out.

That's very fortunate, wish i could say the same but I've had several payara's starve to death in the past trying to get them on prepareds.
I'm pretty sure my Stripped pike characin, the cuda, the biara, and the gangatic leaf fish are stuck on feeders. Both P's have no issues w/ prepared foods.

that's one fish that i've never owned, the payaras always look like they are on death's doorstep when they are in the tanks at the lfs. i have heard they can be stubborn about food and sometimes die for no apparent reason... cool lookin fish but i don't know if it would be worth the hassle for me.

Payaras have been my white whale...........my LFS usually carries the impossible Scomberities - 4 footers. Last a year or 12" then - stunted out even in a 150. The Biaras only get 2'...........a new species for me - so far so good @ 6 months..............but P's have been in my life for over 20 years - my mainstay so to speak.
