i think the "less aggression" thing goes for how they act with other fish and not necessarily conspecific aggression (at least that is what i thought)

Very true :)

I've always heard HRP's are less aggressive than convicts but I've found the opposite to be ture. I had 5 growing out in a 20tall and the large male was beating on everyone. He had to go to a bigger tank. Then the rest started kicking each other around. This is around 1" with plenty of hiding spots. When I have a 20L open up I'm going to move a pair in and see how it goes.

That's interesting. I sure hope this works out. They look so tiny in there. Right now they are 1/2 inch to 1 inch in size. I thought about putting them in my 150 with my marble cons, cutteri, and sajicas, but there is already enough aggression in that tank since everyone is starting to show pre-spawning behavior.

Glad to see you picked up some juvies to grow out. I am sure you will have a pair in no time. My LFS had some in and I picked out the two best looking blues from the group on Sunday. Came home last night to find they have already spawned and are fanning a small clutch of eggs.

Good luck!

I recently got a pair of HRP's "Rio Mongu" which are the more grey variant and I love these little guys! There in a 50g w/ a pair of Rainbow's. The HRP's run that tank even though their much smaller in size. Great fish and beautiful to look at, I will post some pics later.

Thanks :) Congrats on the spawn with yours! Sounds like they really settled in quick. Mine are still hiding most of the time, but I'm going to try to put a background on the tank and add a few more rocks to help them feel more secure. The tank is planted, so that provides some cover. I hope they don't destroy the plants when they get bigger.... fingers crossed!

That's great to hear. I would love to see pictures of yours if you have some. I almost got some rainbows as well yesterday, but I have nowhere to put them at the moment.

I know the pics aren't good but I only have a camera phone at the moment.
They just spawned yesterday :nilly:
