Howdy,
A really big question for you wise folks.
Where can I find a glass/acrylic/steel tank maker who makes reliable aquariums with good dependable workmanship, between 8 and 12 feet in length, for reasonable cost?
I'll share with you two different costs of glass tanks as an example.
GlassCages: 96" x 24" x 31" for $1086.
Coast to Coast 96 x 24 x 31 for $4250.
When I pointed out the huge price difference to the man from Coast to Coast he strongly urged me to avoid working with GlassCages due to "their awful reputation". He recommended I search the online info which I started. So far, he's right, very troubling feedback from most people who offered it.
Yet, I cannot afford the coast to coast tank.
I'm been told that master welders can construct steel tanks. Any feedback about that?
Has anyone here had experience with aquarium builders of large tanks who could offer advice?
Thanks,
Paul

I have bought two different 240's from glass cages. There is nothing wrong with there tanks. im sure he just said that so you wouldnt buy from them. I have never heard any thing negative about them. And that is about the cheapest price your going to find. I just personaully spent 2 months searching every were online and cant find any were that beets there prices. only thing that sucks about getting a large tank like that shipped is that they most places on deliver freight.

Glass cages has had their problems. That point is easy to see when searching. It's proven that people are more likely to leave negative feedback than positive. Some of this may be attributed to the lower prices and higher sales. But I'm just guessing.

Bottom line is, they have good prices. they have been one of the cheapest that I have seen.

You might check out Midwest Custom Aquariums. I think they are in WI.

I think to have professional builders weld steel etc to make a tank would probably be double the coast to coast cost.. And glasscages is fine, I hear good things.. And thier bad, but... Just go with glasscages honestly

Quite Honestly I tried dealing w Coast to coast last year t o build a 100 gal tank, the price was outrageous just for the tank, I had a beautiful wood cabinet stand but was told they would not guarentee their tank unless I also bought their steel stand, Funny the stand held a 180 w/o problems for Ten years. Needless to say I could have bought three 125 setups for the price of their one hundred tank only. Go figure.

Hey, Skillizzo, thanks mucho for your input. How are your tanks coming alone? Are they glass or plastic? How much was the shipping?
Thanks!

Pharaoh, I appreciate this very much. You're right about negative feedback. I know as a shrink that we're hardwired to respond to the dangers. Thanks too for the tip!

Thanks for your feedback. I appreciate it.

That seems like an awful lot of money for a 300g 8x2x2.5 tank.

JFT, thanks very much. Their costs were outrageous and of course I could never go that direction but the word about glasscages was very troubling. I then searched "Glasscages" and ran into very bad comments mostly and some good, supportive words too. Oh well. Big tanks are expensive no matter what.
