Really? I've never heard of that before. Were they fully grown Oscars? How big were the barbs?
Do you think they could live with a Jag?

yeah it was funny the Os would eat all bugs i put in there for them and very occasional feeder fish but never the barbs, but i had them together since the Os were less than 2in, also they werent full grown as sadly this was before i was informed and while they had a plenty big enough tank (5ft 120g for 2 Os, 6 barbs and a dwarf gourami) i didnt know about the importance of wc and this is what i think led to them getting pop eye and dying but they were like 8in with the barbs so plenty big to eat them but they didnt, i dont think they would work with a jag though because jags are more active hunters than Os are (i havent personally had jags this is just what iv heard about them)

I think you were very lucky those tiger barbs didn't become food. Thats a very rare mix, more then likely anyone else who would try tiger barbs with oscars would end up with the 2 full oscars.

I'd just love to have a school of tiger barbs in my big tank. I suppose it is not really practical though.
I've had success with giant danios and Oscars. The danios only get eaten when they slow down.

yeah your probably right there, i think the only reason it worked for me was because i already had the barbs in there when i added the Os and the Os were really small so they grew up with them, and i only gave them feeders for Xmas (as presents LOL) and other than that the only live food they got were bugs that they had to get at the top of the tank, and im sure i also just got lucky with really laid back Os
