What exactly is the reason for "treating your tank with chemicals"? sorry for all these questions... Like I said, The filtration part is what confuses me. Even after reading all the filtration stickys on here. ha
 
dechlor is the only one u should use on water change days, medicine only when fish are sick even then try salt first (cross that bridge when needed) and carbon is used to remove medicine or unwanted odors. i use prime as a dechlorinater but there are many others.
 
read up on how a tank cycles to understand the natural filtration process
 
You can buy it in rolls at any fabric store, or walmart etc. All it is a big peice of pollyfiber that you cut into lil circles to fit into your filter basket same principle as a cofee filter or tea bag

ive read that polfiber can break down and fall apart a little and some can get into the impeller and wrap around it. Is that true?
