Questions & Concerns About Convicts & Others

Yeah I've read they breed like rabbits, would be a good source for feeder fish but I'm not in terrible need of them so I think I'll pass on breeding them for now. I think I'm going to go with an all male tank with two of each of the following, firemouths, jewels & convicts and then my two Senegal bichirs.

Doing some more research and reading that male firemouths don't get along so may just do one male of each. Want to figure out what to stock my 75 gallon with and to stock it safely for all fish

Not all 'convicts' are the same. The term 'convict' is used to described any of the several species within the genus, Amatitlania. They vary greatly in aggression from species to species so I'd recommend you seek out some Amatitlania siquia and try to avoid Amatitlania nigrofasciatus or kanna. Within the species 'siquia' there are several striking variants to pick from, few of which get as big or aggressive as nigrofasciatus. Amatitlania siquia 'Honduran Red Point' would work well for you.
Alternatively, you could go with any of the Archocentrus or Cryptoheros species which are closely related.

Thanks for the info! I will have to look into these and see what's available around where I live. I know I can get black convict cichlids, not sure if that narrows it down any or not. I'm new to the world of cichlids and have been learning a lot here on the forum! *Scurries off to look up some mentioned in this this post*
