questions for the fh experts

hey guys i keep central americans and oddballs so dont really know anything about fh at all.

but i saw this little guy the other day for 5 english pounds bout 9 bucks.

as he was so cheap i take it he is real low grade, he was the biggest baddest in the group hence i picked his guess he was the alpha male although i dont know the sex.

so basically what im asking is does anyone think he is nice do you think he has potential.

what type is he? will he always keep these colours etc or will he peel?

i just really know very little about them so any info will help cheers guys

Nice selection :)

They will grow very fast as much as 1" a month. What other fish you keeping with him? They tend to want to be the king of the tank and if there are too many contenders it may get ugly in the future but then again since your growing out small I have had great luck with other tank mates. Keep us posted :)
 
zz? more info? is that the most common type of fh. do you think he is getting a kok already then? what makes some get these big heads and some not? is it a dominance thing? zz's stay sort of trimac coloured dont they?
 
he is pretty much the smallest little guy in the tank and he is already really bossy lol. i am wel aware of their aggresive nature thats kinda why i wanted to give him a go. he is in there with 2 cichla temensis 1 jag 1 giant gourami 1 texas and some other bits and bobs i have 3 threads in the photo section showing my 3 setups if anyone fancies a look
 
look's like he has some potential by small lump on his head and the fact that he has some nice colors but the thing is they gain more potential when they are by themselves.
 
by themselves. do you mean in a single species tank or the only fh in the tank?
 
ZZ is the generic and most stable of the flowerhorn strains which is why nicer ones are popping up. He does not look like a fader and his color will only become more intense as he gets older and you feed him enhancers. Also chances are he is a male from what I can see.
 
i sure hope so he has a lot of character already and eats well he eats a staple of hikari gold is that ok? then a selection of fishy treats like chopped mussel prawn and blood worn etc is that cool?
