I was planing on getting a florida gar but I still have a few questions:
A. Can I keep one In a 140 gallon tank?

B. What live fish is more nutritional, goldfish or guppies?

C. Any thing to note about these fish?

A. Can be kept for years in there. Not sure of the dimensions. Wide the better in the beginning. Life long a 6x3 will be good.

B. Guppies are better. It will take prepared foods so no need to go live. Ur choice!

C. Hardy fish. Need space to swim. Will need the tank covered.

That's fine.

Another option would be to hit up the local bait shops for live minnows. Those would be better than goldfish or guppies. You also want to train the gar onto floating carnivore sticks for the added nutrients and vitamins that'll be lacking in shop-starved feeders.

I heard bad things about bait shop minnow and how they are infested with viruses. So, I think I'll train him to eat pellets once I get one.

I'd get your gar off live food. When mine were small I'd cut strips of fish fillet and use feeding tongs to hand feed until they eventually took frozen on their own. Gars usually come around pretty quick to different foods

When I get my gar I will train if on frozen food. I actually have another question, i like the idea of prehistoric fish so what prehistoric fish do well with them?

Arowana and large lower jaw Polypterus come to mind.

Will need a tank big tank if considering an arowana.
