Here is the water quality report from my local water company...
Chlorine, mg/L 1.04 APR 21 2009 Fluoride, mg/L F 0.64 MAR 04 2009 Hardness, mg/L CaCO3 234 MAR 09 2009 Nitrate as Nitrogen, mg/L N 2.4 MAR 04 2009 Sodium, mg/L Na 63 MAR 09 2009 Temperature, Deg.F 78.3 APR 21 2009 Total Dissolved Solids, mg/L 440 APR 21 2009 pH, Std. Units 7.98 APR 21 2009

Any chance discus could breed in this? With a 7.98 PH and TDS of 440? My angels have no problems...

They should be able to spawn OK, but the hatch rate may be low. I've never bred discus in hard water. I'm only going by what I have read. My water is from a well, very soft, with a PH of 6.0 to 6.2, so I've never had that problem. I say go for it and see what happens. If the hatch is a bust, you could always add some RO water for the next spawn. After the eggs hatch and are free swimming, then you should be in the clear. After all, once discus start to spawn, they will do it regularly for a while. Pairs will often lay eggs 10 or more times before they stop.

We have a breeding operation in PA., where the water is 300ppm + (TDS), our PH is a steady 7.4 . We have no problem with the Domestic Discus and their hatch rates are around 80% on a regular basics. We have 27 breeding Pairs and appox 2000 juvies . You can play with the water parameters all you want but it is just a pain in the *** . We believe the key to breeding Domestic Discus is clean water an a variety of live and QUALITY FLAKE and Bloodworm's.
