Questions Regarding Heater

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I only have one flowerhorn in the tank.. if you are interested, you can check out my thread in the hybrid section.. :)

P.S: I've tuned the heater temp at 27°C but somehow the digital thermometer shows 31°C.. Could it be caused by the tropical weather here?
I would like to keep the water at 28°C which is ideal for my fish..
Do I need to tune down the heater temp somemore until the thermometer shows me the number that I want?

cool ill check it out.

i would trust the thermometer over the heater.
although if the water is that hot already your heater shouldnt be coming on.

if your heater is coming on still then turn it down and go with the thermometer reading,.

The heater has automatically turned off for the whole day after I tuned it down to 27°C & the thermometer shows 30°C at the moment.. I've turned on the air conditioner in my room to see if it helps to lower the temp to 28 or 29°C.. if not, I'll just stick with 30.. lol

I am kind of a newbie here, but in my experience, the submergable heaters work better for me. They seem to keep the temp consistantly. Could have been that before I had the submergables, my heater was too small for my tank too so take that into consideration. :)

Hmm, while the air-con was doing its thing, apparently the heater(set at 27°C) lights up & keeps the water temp constant at 30°C..

well in my own opinion 200w is not strong enough
i had 200w on my 55 gall and i never couldnt keep same temperature
I got 2 x 200 jebo heater and since then i never had problem with temperature
just my 2cents

Yeah, I find that the setting on pretty much any heater is usually off by a couple of degrees. As long as it maintains a consistent temperature you just have to compensate by turning it down 2 or 3.

Yeah, the setting does seem to be off.. I think I'm getting the hang of it..
Just need to see how the water change affects the temp & I'll tune the heater accordingly.. :)

i find the best thermometer is also the most inexpensive...... plain glass floating one. mind you, if your fish are the thermometer eating type you might want to go with something less tasty...... lol. i had a couple digital thermometers, gave them away, don't care for them one bit, because changing out dead batteries is for rc cars, not fish tank equipment!

That's funny, I've changed out more glass thermometers than I have batteries. Every tank I've had has busted one from rays to loaches. Also, you can turn them on and off for a quick check instead of wasting battery life.
