OK on my next setup I want to attempt an auto changer. The tank is very big and I don't want to do 300g at a time or multiple waterchanges during one week. Here is what I want to do I have no idea what I'm doing so any help would be great
Tap into my main water suppy after it runs through my water filters\
This will run upstairs and hook up to a solenoid and then to some sort of regulator to regulate 1-2gph. The solenoid has to be a 110v that shuts the valve when the power goes out( I get to many power outages here and I don't need any floods) this will dump into the top of the tank somewhere

Now to remove the water, I am guessing a small pump inside my sump hooked up to a float switch that will pump through a small pipe running to the outside of my house

Am I on the right track here? Suggestions?

Sounds good. I prefer gravity fed overflows myself, then I can just leave the water running all the time. That way, if the power goes out, theres fresh water going into the system to keep in going.

to clear that up you mean have a system that only flows at say Xgal/hr via a control valve that flows into the tank and let the over flows keep the tank from overflowing and then having a drain on the sump that works without power?

aka having a constent water change going on at whatever rate you want and if the power goes out it still works..

i am thinking about having a system like this when i get my big tank.

going to use a large tub for sump and have a small hole drilled in it at the water level i want with a bulkhead that goes to a drain.

There are 101 ways to set up an Automatic water changing system. I am in no way an expert but I did attempt to do this with my 72x24x30 and it works for me http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=269040.

So lets get started on your project.

1. Where is the tank located?

2. Where will the water drain? e.s. outside/sump-basement/tap into a drain in the house

There is many ways to drain dirty water. Like in your post, with a pump/float or an overflow/etc.

I love to help others with projects when I dont have to do the labor.

Exactly. Here's a basic build list.

Water input:

Some type of faucet or hose adapter.
Pressure regulator
Water filter
1/4" adapter
1/4" line
Drip emitter

Drain:

Bulkhead
PVC

The only reason I was thinking of the solenoid to shut during outages is because I have well water with a well pump so if the power goes out, I don't have the water will stop flow and not drain my water pressure down to nothing

That might be the best option in your case. Shouldn't be too hard.

Tank located on and outside wall on a slab no basement

water will drain outside into one of my liter pipes

What are you planning on doing with the plumbing? Behind/through the wall or are you going to run it somewhere?

Drain I was thinking just running a 3/8" to 1/2" from a pump hooked up to the float inside the sump I will just drill a hole thru my wall and run it outside to the gutter drain. As for the supply end, I will come up from the basement and get a 3/8" copper line to under the tank and then from there run some sort of solenoid and flow meter/regulator
