hello i am very interested in Gars but i do not know where to get them at! Where can buy them at do you have to get them wild caught in florida?
1.How big of a tank would i need for one gar?
2. Is a needlefish related to a gar an anyway?
3. Do they get along with cichlids?

they are illegal in California!

The needlefish is not a true gar and is allowed in CA.

With the exception of the gator gar and cuban gar, gars get along with most tank mates. Provided they're not of a size to become a meal.

extreamely helpful... but yes true gar are illegal in cali... try the "other characine" subforum for info on hejutas and needlenose fish... both look alot like gar but are carnivorouse tetras. On the up side both require smaller tanks then true gar.
