I am getting a second 100g this weekend (gotta love craigslist) and I was thinking if I take the AC 110 off the current tank which has a second filter running, I could cycle the new tank fairly quickly.

Is that correct??

current tank has 1 AC 110 and a FB300 fluidized bed filter with 11 rbp's

NO.

dad_jsp: yes, if you take an established filter and put it on your new tank, consider it cycled. no need to wait for anything since the bacteria is already established in your filter. just be sure to treat the water with something like Prime before you put on the filter.

Then, be sure to have fish in there soon to continue to provide a food source for the bacteria so they wont die off

how did i tell him the same thing? you told him he needs to cycle the tank by throwing in some worthless bottled bacteria and then some "cheap fish". with an established filter there is no need to wait for the bacteria to get established and no need for "cheap fish" since the filters already has a colony of bacteria established. :screwy:

youre right - youre not imagining things. you just dont comprehend things too well. youre talking about "cheap fish". i said there is no need for cheap fish, he can add his regular stock. why would he need cheap fish?

just an assumption that someone posting on MFK, regarding a 100gal tank, probably keeps a higher end fish, so why chance it?

just my opinion
i see what youre saying, but it really isnt an issue in this case. the whole point of cycling a tank in the first place is wait for the bacteria in the filters to grow so they can consume ammonia/nitrites. this is why we dont put our delicate or expensive fish in there yet.

but when you have a filter thats already established, the new tank/old filter will operate as if it had been running for months. all there is to it really :)
