bait shops are great and cheaper than the grocery store...also try to get crayfish/crawfish if you can, just be sure to cut off the sharp parts (horn, tail) before feeding

Good point.

Even with the market shrimp I remove the back half of the shell and the legs so I can get rid of any pointy parts of the tail.

What about Raw Meat?

I feed shrimp to my aro I have gotten some great color in it too.

I feed mine both raw (peeled) table shrimp and whole bait shrimp. I removed the head and tail spines on the bait shrimp but otherwise leave them whole. Also mine likes smelt, which are fairly inexpensive compared with shrimp. It has also taken strips of raw flounder, snapper and other food fish, I just trim a strip off when I cook fish. They also love crickets and cicadas. I think variety is the key. I wish they made larger tetramin pellets but the fish ignores the largest ones I have found. It did eat them on occasion when it was smaller.

Hey tried searching this.. I was unsucessful.. How are table shrimp nutrition wise for feeding arows and other carnivorous fish in general? and would using Table shrimp be a bad idea for a base food?
Thanks

Will be as good.
