So I was down at my tank tonight checking up on things, and decided to try my flashlight app on my phone above my tank. And alas, the soft, pure white led with shimmer look I've been searching for.

Anybody have any idea what kind of LED the iPhone 5s flash is? I want to somehow rig like 10-15 of a similar light above my tank, but not sure what I need to buy. Any info on small DIY LED projects?

I tried those flood lights everyone uses. Waaaay too bright.

I was looking on eBay, and not sure what to get. But man did it look good. Can't wait to get more LEDs

Just a regular led light like a beamswork single bright. I have a 48" fixture on my 6' 125 with a powerhead pointed at the surface. Shimmers all day and night lol

The key is the white and blue leds. I got mine for $60 shipped so it wasn't too bad cost wise. I never liked the led floodlights because the single beam was so intense on one area. I've seen 3 of them on a 6' tank and it did look pretty good though.

Very cool guys thanks for all the input. Those led floods are just obnoxious. Shows the dust in the water and every scratch on the acrylic. Probably because they are like 3500 lumens lol. I'll look into what you guys suggested for me! Any link on that tetra led?

IMO, I don't think any sort of special light causes that other than it take sheer intensity to do it. Add enough inferior lights to equal the output of say a metal halide grow light and they would do the same.
