Quick Oscar Question.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I tried keeping hujeta gars with oscars. I had to move the gars because the oscars kept harrassing them. Oscars seem really attracted to shiny things :)

yeah i think it depends on the O totally. i also noticed that O were racist, reg and albinos. they segrigate and get nuts with each other.u never know how your oscar will be with other tank mates unless you try

yeah i forgot about that part, but oscars dont like mixing sometimes with their own kind if thier colored differently. The problem with gars mixed with oscars is that oscars feed like starved pigs and as a result can frighten the gar as a result, causing them to try to jump out, which could result in injury, or the gar on the floor, neither of which are good obviously.

The trouble with fish is that, as many of them that may behave in a certain way within the species, there are always those that won't.

They do have their own personalities, that's for sure... especially Oscars.

IME, oscars that grow up with fish bigger than itself will tolarate them much more when it grows up as opposed to a large oscar who gets thrown in with everything smaller. IME Clown Loaches are fairly tough and can hold thier own.

My red oscar (12") would ignore it.
My other one (14") would destroy an 8" false gar......

It all depends on the Oscar and their personality. I have had one that was just a stinker and go after anything but now I have 2 that are completely laid back. My larger one is just a big baby she loves doing stuff to get peoples attention. The smaller one just follows her around. I do have to say my bigger one did have a mean streak at first she killed my Tiger Oscar only after being picked on him for a couple weeks and then she turned and said that is enough. That was the only aggression I have seen out of her.
