The fitting you are describing is a MPT Adapter.
In your case it is a Sch. 80 1" slip tp Male Pipe Thread (MPT)
IMO a better solution is to use a FPT adapter (Female Pipe Adapter) and a nipple or a threaded hase barb fitting

yah. what you said first sounds like it could be right. not quite sure what you mean by the second part of it but whats the difference? the rest of the set-up is all still cemented from the previous owner .. pvc already cemented into either side of the bulkead so i have to work with what ive got there.

another note .. the hose he used is 3/4" hose so the nipple thing with that is for 3/4" hose .. not sure what size the actual threaded part is but my piece looks almost identical to the two pictures i linked. if i could grab a quick picture i would but i am not able to at the moment unfortunately .. i'm at work and would like to pick this up somewhere on the way home as i just got a call telling me my pump is in and tonight would be a great night for me to get my plumbing done

I have had MPT adapters fail and no longer use them.
IMO Female Pipe thread adapters (even sch.40) are a stronger fitting and I have not had one fail yet. It would be a whole lot easier to help you if you could provide a photo.

Also, you don't need to replace the pipe with sch 80 (gray) you can go with the sch 40 (white) stuff. It's cheaper, easyer to find, and in your case will work because your just moving water through a drain.

I always buy one of everything I think I need LOL then I just have to go back once to return the stuff I don't use. Save your receipt!
