i would have the sand no more than a 1/2-3/4 inch deep.... any deeper and your asking for problems and alot of extra maintence to avoid problems....

I have had my new pups on Black Estes for the last month and they love it. Sometimes it sticks but like Kevaldo stated. They just flick their disc a couple of times to remove it.
I would not make it more than a 1 inch or so deep though.
 
some guys swear by fine gravel some swear by sand.... Me i prefer bare bottom.... and i would make that sand bed more shallow... 3/4" max
 
your choice......but gravel falls under the same... gotta keep it very clean

oh, keeping the sand clean wont be a problem at all. i do maitenene tuesday, thursday and sunday. all tanks get gravel vacked.

i think i may just put her on gravel.
