Is it normal for aros to sit on the bottom from time to time?
Mine is eating well and greets me morning and night for food. It then sometimes just sits on the bottom.
Water peramiters are all good (don't know about temp but it's the tropics so i don't worry about it.)
It sits in the flow of water so water is passing its gills.
Is it normal or is my fish donig soemthing others don't?
I know it might be a stupid question and all my other (small) fish do it, but they don't cost $300 U.S to replace and i am a biginner.

Normally aros are swimmers ... kinda like perpetual motion (part of the charm). imo it is not normal that your fish is sitting at the bottom. Do note that i only have one green asian aro so i am not really that experienced with asian aros....but from what i have seen these fishes do not usually sit on the bottom of the tank

No idea though for the reason

good luck

IME, its normal. At times one of my aro's cruises at the bottom when no one is home. Once he sees someone in the room though he gets up and is right at the front of the glass begging like normal.

Although, my other two aros don't exhibit the same behaviour, so I guess it depends on the individual fish.

It not a stupid question. I really want to see what other will say about this question. Since i never seen my arowana sitting at the bottom of the tank. Its always at the top swimming.

Mine do. Exactly sitting, as if swimming, with their bellies touching the bottom. Normally in front of water flow.

Are all normal, over 2 feet, and been doing it for years.

^ that's a relife. I presume its allowing for digestion because it does it after eating mostly, but when i first saw it behave like this i couldn't see the fish and i though it'd jumped and got stuck in the lid, this was before feeding.
I know (from animal planet) that sharks need to swim to live but if they find a channel or a tunnel in coral with water flow they often just sit in the flow.

mine somtimes also do the same thingy bt most of the time will be at top!!! check ur water flow...if there's current normally my aro will be at the bottom...so maybe u cn reduce the current water pump if that's the reason! many luck :D

It sits at the top as well sometimes, TBH it just looks like it's chillin.
I give it food and it away. It doesn't stay in one place for long either.
I just reintroduced some parrot fish that initially bothered it. They were in the tank before the arrowan and one of them is a big fat b*****d. I was worried it would injure the aro due to bumping it all the time. I took them out for about 2 weeks; I put them back in last night. The big parrot tried to steal some M.shrimp and got bitten on the face for it.
The aro was acting really aggressive to them and swimming in an aggressive manner. It was like its expression changed. it was good to watch, it's defiantly not sick or anything.

the water flow is comming striaght from the top back pannel in the right hand corner, so the flow is hitting the front pannel directly opposite, there will be current top and bottom but not massive amounts.
