Ok here is the situation. One of neighbors just got his 180 gallon tank. He ended getting 20 8" Red belly piranhas from a friend, but he didn't have a tank set up. He is getting his sump together now. Would it be OK if you added a bunch of my pot scubbies that have been in my sump that already have the bacteria of them. Would the tank already be cycled if I added my scrubbies to mis biomedia???

it would def. help adding the scrubbies, but such a high bio load will need further cycling. just keep up on water changes often and i would also go pick up enough bio-spira for 180g and add that.

That's what I told him, I had 75 little baby red bellies growing out in a 55. That was crazy I had to sell, and give away most of them. I told him they would tear each other up. Hey it's not my tank, not my fish....... I'm done with the piranha thing I just have 1 10" black piranha left. I was just trying to help him so he doesn't kill them. He really doesn't know anything about filtering.........basicly he dosesn't know sqat!!!. He doesn't even have access to the internet and has never heard of MFK! I was just wondering if I add my scrubbies would the tank be cycled. He would just have to monitor the ammonia levels......Right??

Thanks that's a good Idea!!!!

Yeah it will definitely help speed up the process. It all depends how many scrubbies you add, but I dont think they will be able to keep up with the bio load of all those fish. Best bet would be to do BIG water changes every day or every other day till things get cycled...

I have added an extra 100 scubbies in my tank last month just in case I was going to start another tank. So If I added about 50 scrubbies and the Bio-spira would it be a good start???? He would just have to check the ammonia levels everday!

50 scrubbies would be very good IMO. yeah, just keep an eye on the ammonia levels

Two things to buy, a seachem ammonia alert at your lfs, and a back brace. IME with that bio load he may be doing 2 water changes a day for quite some time. The bio spira and your seeded scrubbies are definately a good idea though.

i wouldnt trust those cute little ammonia meters. better off sticking to a standard test kit like the API brand. only takes a few seconds to test and have results in 5min
