can i just buy a 10" roller, high gloss paint, and go ahead with it? (after cleaning it of course)

thanks

Use spray paint.

A lot easier...and in my opinion a nicer finish.

I have done dozens of tanks like this.

wrapping paper my girlfriend surprised me one day with it and its so cheap and easy to change

I'd say bucket paint with a roller would look a lot cleaner than spray paint... IMO or you could always go to the LFS and purchase a background usually only a couple dollars a foot... Solid black or solid blue wrapping paper is an extremely good idea. I'm not so sure about having christmas or birthday wrapping paper on the back of your fish tank and I hope that's not what you use... ;)

+1, although I prefer my tanks clear on all sides

I have done both spray and roller, and I must say that I LOVE the look of a nice job done with a roller. It looks a little more soft than spray paint does. Plus the spray paint can get very messy if you don't take the right precautions. With a roller you just have to put a little newspaper on the ground and give it a few coats.

They make this new stick on stuff for backings and it works well my backings look good on all my tanks and i put it on 6 months ago the stuff stays wet and sticky for ever. You just apply it to the tank back or the backing and squeegy out the air bubbles like window tint that you could change in about 20 minutes. I'll have to find out the name of the stuff and post it.
