Quick Question on Angelfish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I actually do not have an ammonia or nitrate kit but I have a nitrite kit. I will test to see if there are nitrites and hopefully that can hint at if there is a mini cycle going on.

I would suggest you hope to it and go get yourself those tests.
Clear water does not equal clean water. Only a test can tell you what is in the.

min the mean time, if you cannot do a water change until tomorrow I would suggest you dose your tank with prime (provided you use prime) if you have an ammonia showing up in your water the prime with bind it for 24 hours so it won’t be harming your fish. Then I’d suggest you do your water change asap.

I do not use prime, I know I should probably get, but I did feed them a little bit of omega 1 flakes soaked in garlic, ginger and home grown aloe vera syrup and everybody ate it. In the meanwhile should I increase or decrease the temp? The first angel seems to be doing better and they are all back to normal angelfish behavior. They're fine are clamped but just not extended, as in just there.

Sorry your having issues with your Angels. Silly question but you are using a water conditioner , right? And I agree about you need to test your water for ammonia, nitrite and nitrates. A liquid test kit is a very important tool especially for newly set up tanks. The clamped fins and spazzing are definitely a sign of something stressing them out. It could be ick which sometimes is not always visible at the beginning stages. But start with testing the water and posting the numbers here. What size tank was it? How many fish and what kind?

Yes, I am using aqueon water conditioner. I am looking for my test kit but I cannot find it, am very disappointed but I will go to my lfs later today to have it tested. If it is ick should I increase my temp to 80+? The other tankmates are 2 bolivian rams, 2 pearl gourami, and 1 4 inch severum. The tank has manzanita branches, 1 fake plant from an already established tank, 1 amazon sword also from an established tank. It is a 75 gallon tank - standard dimensions. Filtered by a tetra whisper 40i and a hydro sponge V for 125 gallons.

Have you done a water change today? If not I would suggest you do a 50% change before you go to your lfs

I have not done a WC today but they measured at 0 ammonia 0 nitrite and 5 ppm nitrate and ph 7.4. They seem to go back to normal as soon as I put a littel food in the tank, that was the case last night when I fed them.

An extra water change def won’t hurt them, I’m sure they would even welcome it

Alright, ill try but I might not be able to until next week, I am currently very busy atm.
