I figured id post a topic to get a quick answer. what ph do blood parrot cichlids require? a friend told me they accept a wide ph range, is this true? should I worry about my parrots ph?

on a quick google search i just did, seems it is split between 6.5-7.5ish or 6.5 to around 8.3ish. i would say low to mid 7's should be ok, but i do not keep cichlids so would probably wait for someone else who has first hand experience.

actually, playing it safe is usually acclimating them to your water and not messing with the pH.

what he said..... I am a firm believer that almost any fish, excluding WC fish, can adapt to mostly any PH with slow acclimation... i have high PH and have had a wide range of fish do very well in it...

not a problem I've ever had to deal with. I have tried acidifying water for my cory's but it was a pain in multiple ways.
maybe seachem neutral regulator would work? my tap water is consistantly 7 so as far as the regulator goes I have no clue but I've been using it for a year mainly as a dechlorinator and it works well as that . it's main intended function seems in line with what you need.

thanks guys, I think im going to stick with my ph tablets to keep steady ph. one last question; can you use black water extract with parrot fish? I use it with my arowanas and rays and love the golden water, ive noticed my rays and aros seem more active and are even showing better colors. is black extract safe for all fish with the exception of hard water fish? sorry for the stupid question, im sure its safe but I dont like risking things lol..
