I was wondering seeing as i hear good things about the Rena xp3 and xp4,

Is a Rena xp4 as good as a Fluval fx5?

Rena xp4 = USD$145.24

Fluval fx5 = USD$339.99

Prices are from ebay Buy Now prices if interested.
Im prob guessing from the price the fluval is probally better.

I seriously do not know wat i should get either one of them or a 4ft sump.
Wat would you guys recommend.

Rena xp4
Fluval fx5
4ft sump

Thankyou Very much

Only One issue i have found...

I can purchase Fluval fx5 for $400AUD
But,,,
Cant seem to find any Rena xp4 or even Rena canisters anywhere :(:(:(
Im wanting some decent filtration on all my tanks
so i might need 4 of these or so =/

The Rena XP3 & XP4 can't even be put in the same category as an FX5. The FX5 flows a ton more water.

I, myself, am a Rena fan. I have always liked them, but you will get varying opinions.

FX5 pushes LOTS of water but has MANY issues.

First and foremost the “chip” that decides when it should and should not be on…. Nothing like walking in and seeing a filter shut off and have not explanation except the media was a little dirty…

I dumped all Fluvals a few weeks ago to go with 2260 to replace my FX5.

The XP line is great for what they do, but a 200g tank is a little much for 1 XP4. Then again I never run 1 filter so 2 XP4s or XP3s would be more the route if I had to make that choice.

But go for 2260 or 2262 and be done with it if you want 1 big filter.

There is no problems with fx5. there was, but they have fixed them. No problems now. the chip makes it purge for 2 min every 24 hours. but if you would have looked at the owners manuel for a mear 30 sec you would have seen that..... And as for 2260 and other such Ehiem filters, a modified Fx5 can do just as well(heck a non-modded FX5 does barely worse than Ehiem 2260) for less. Ehiem filters are WAY over priced. They are good filters but for the money I would rather do a sump or a FX5 and do some mods
The rena's from what i hear are pretty good. sucks BTW that you(the OP) are in austraila. They are available here on EBAY for 200 bucks USD shipped.
