quick question

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
aslong as its a gradual change and not a sudden change then i reckon you should be ok..

That's high for cichla imo.. But they should be ok. They will adapt but just keep an eye on things and try getting some drift wood in there to drop the ph.

Some rootwood would buffer the tank down some though i am not sure how much. If you are going to move them i would drip them VERY slowly so that they can get used to the different water vice just putting them in the new tank.

i just put some driftwood in the tank one piece takes up about half of the length and then a have 2 smaller peices. so hopefully by the time the tank fully cycles it will be lower.
how would i drip them?

with driftwood my tanks run about 6.8 Ph, without driftwood they stay around 7.4 or 7.6 Ph. and i keep cichla is almost all of my tanks.. they do just as well in the 7.6 as they do in the 6.8.

This is very true. I wouldn't worry to much about acclimating them (drip method). I have read recently where this will cause more damage then good. I have never used this method of acclamiting becuase if done wrong you can cause more damage. I would just put them in the tank when it's done cycling. They will adjust to there enviroment.

thanks for the help everyone
so when i do put them in the tank should i just bag em and let them float for like 5min like u do when u get fish from the lfs?

I never do but you can if that makes you feel more comfortable. It is only getting them acclimated to the diffrence in temparture from tank to tank.
