First off, what does stocking refer to? It maybe relevant to my question.

Can I put 3 Firemouths, a convict cichlid couple (Paired male and female), a Jack Dempsey and two other -4 inch cichlids in a 55 gallon? My filtration can take it but I am curious about over all space needed. All but the three Firemouths are already living in the tank and have been for a while peacefully. Two of the firemouths are paired and the other is a lone male.

Thanks

Pairs always need more room. particulalry cichlids. imo your inviting trouble by adding the convicts. I can see them deffinately harassing/killing off the rest of your fish slowly. THe Jack may be fine depending on it's aggression level. I've seen Jacks beat-up by firemouths, and I've seen them kill everything else in a tank with them. I think with teh firemouths being there first you're less likely to have issues with the Jack.

Stocking refers to what livestock you have in a given enclosure.

the Convict Cichlid pair will take over the 55g tank withn a month.....After the first spawn hatches and is free-swimming, the pair will swim around the tank, "walking" the spawn around.......At this time, there better be no fish present, because of the parental care these fish have, they will rip off fins and beat down anything near the young............

Well they have spawned in the tank before without a problem. They are a young pair so perhaps they will become more of a problem as they get older? Well, if I remove the convict pair would it work? The JD is pretty chill, he's got his one clay pot and as long as no one bothers him, he won't bother them.

give the 3 firemouth and 1 JD stock a try, I think that'd be pretty well maxed as well as cichlids go. That pair of firemouths could be an issue though, hard to tell without knowing the individual fishes temperments. size wise i think it'd be okay though

I'll try removing the convicts, I have something special in mind for them that I think they will like.
