Hey fellow monsterfishkeepers, I just had a quick question about my redtail. So I have been noticing this a lot the past few days, that my redtail is very dark black with a good pink tint to his tail, now this is in the mornings when I get up and first turn on the light... But after an hour it seems like he loses his color... I know that stress can affect the color but he is acting fine and last time I checked my water parameters everything was good... This has just started happening, hes about 14-16 inches long... Good diet of shrimp and talapia... Plenty of filtration... It just wierd that he goes from black to grey... Ill try to get a comparison picture later... He looks fine now since I just turned on the tank light... Also could it be that I am using one of the bulbs thats supposed to enhance color? Let me know what you guys think.... Thanks....

The brightness of the light bulb you use tells him he needs to lighten his color so he can hide better. Also anything that is light in color in the tank such as sand/gravel and backgrounds can also have the same effect.

my rtcs do it from time to time its nothing to worrie about it just them 1. getting spooked 2. your lighting 3.rtcs are very picky and are like two year olds there just tempermetal.

Thanks guys... I believe it is just the light to be honest... He is acting and eating just like normal... There is no change in him at all... Its just when I get up in the morning and turn the light on he is a dark black... and then about a half hour later he turns a light gray... I do have light colored sand in the bottom of the tank which could cause him to go so light...
