Quick question, I’m pretty sure I know the answer but I want to make sure before I do it.

I have a small shrimp tank and it has 2 sponge filters and a whisper filter, I think I’m loosing some of the baby shrimp to the whisper filter so I think I can just cut off the filter and leave the media inside the tank and it’ll work the same bacteria wise. Am I correct?

To answer you question yes you can leave the media inside the tank and it will work the same. Question is why do you need 3 filters in the first place? Shrimp have basically no bio load and would be fine with just the one sponge filter. Unless your feeding a obscene amount you shouldn’t have a bio issue.

The sponge filters are mainly there as a back up in case the power goes out and the whisper is mainly there just so I can chuck an additional bag of media in there for another tank. Also I was trying to have a huge colony of shrimp at one point so I was preparing for maximum capacity and the sponges were going to hep feed the baby shrimp.

I would run the sponge filters by themselves and wouldn’t worry about pulling the bio media out of the aquarium after a week or so if your worried about a mini cycle. I’m assuming your running plants in this setup so they will help support the bio load.

pics ?‍♂️

id like to do one of those one of these days

I did have the set up planted until about two days ago when I transferred almost all of my plants from various set ups to one dedicated plant set up that the shrimp will eventually go into. I’m no longer able to move on with certain plans I had made that would have *required* me to have lots of cherry shrimp so now I’ll just be letting them breed as they please.

If you want pics of a boring set up then I’ll oblige however it’s only sand, rocks, and some leaves atm.
