Found a 40 long on CL for 80 bucks with EVERYTHING...I've been looking at a 40b or a 55l for her, would a 40long work instead? Its only 16 inches tall:\

Or I guess it would be great for my bichirs & pictus cats yeah? I think I'm gonna do it...

edit: I just realized its the same height as the 40b anyways...I'm gonna call him and go for it

Just do it!

Haha I'm on the way to it right now:P. I figure if I think the tank is too small I can still try and sell just the tank off and get a 55 instead;). I think it'll work fine though. Should have my stock happily split up by next week sometime

Did you get the tank? if so post some pics! :)

Just got it in the car driving home now:P. I haven't looked at the heater but it's got a penguin200 filter, has a full hood & lights, the stand looks pretty worn so i gotta give it a good once over before i trust it.

Overall I think I just got a good deal. Not sure if the penguin will be enough, but I do think that if it's not then I can put it on my 20 and move the magnum 250 to this new one and be fine.

Haven't decided yet if I'll move the jd to this tank or leave her in the 65 and move the bichirs and pictus cats to this tank...we'll see:)

woot woot good deal - if i were you i'd move the jd over and keep ur other guys in the big tank

None of the tanks you mentioned would be large enough for an adult JD.

The pictus and bichirs may work for that tank depending on its dimensions.

^ you're the only person so far with that sentiment, the only tank that I haven't had people say is fine is the 40long that I just picked up.

I think I need to re-silicone the entire tank:\ All the corners look pretty dirty and when I run my finger over the silicone its dry and kind of bubbles up a bit. Shouldn't be too difficult to figure out though.

The filter looks to be in surprisingly good condition. Just gotta throw some media in it & I should be fine there. The heater I'm not so sure about...I'll probably get a new one just to be safe. The last used heater I had cracked open after a month or two of use.

I'm still unsure as to what fish I'll move...I feel like the bichirs & cats would enjoy the extra foot of length, but I also feel like 13 inches is going to be too small from front to back in the long run.

I'm going to pick up some sand from a member here in chapel hill today, so while I'm out doing that I'll have to figure out what silicone I need and stop and get some.

The switch on the lights appears broken as well:\ I pushed it and its not popping back out. So I'll have to take the light apart and see whats going on there.

Overall it appears to be in great condition, just some new silicone and maybe a new part here & there (filter, light). The only thing that worries me a bit is the stand...it appears solid, but then again maybe not. I'm just gonna take it slow filling it up & be cautious. We'll see what happens...

The 40g long is the same footprint as a 55g so having the 55 would not add any more horizontal swimming space. With the footprint of a 40g breeder you would actually have more horizontal swimming space then a 55.

Any of the three would do fine for a full grown Jack Dempsey.
