What are some mistakes that you guys have made that could have gone really bad but you corrected it quickly enough to save you fish or tank. Let here it!

typical one, forgot to add prime before filling the tank. bring on the OHH S%^&T MOMENT. and add before its to full to hurt the fish. or there gills to be exact.

Well ironically you ask that question, today one of my Senegal bichir was found on the hard wood so after placing her back in the aquarium placed a decorative piece of lava rock on top of lid.

I made this mistake twice....
Yea this is typical mistake

there is also the OHH S%^&t, water drained to low because I was yakking on MFK or some other fish site, we have a name for that now on my main board, you have 90% water change, a fin level water change, and then you have the one eye up water change. nothing like a large oscar looking up at you with just his one eye.

pun intended? I actually use safe to which to say, it did have a "safe" outcome.

Lol those moments are so much fun Jkn! One of my filter hoses busted off the other night when my hubby forgot to put the hose clamp back on after cleaning the filter... I woke up at 3am to "flap flap flap" and after following the puddle to the tank, noticed that my largest goldfish was flapping around out of the water, IT WAS THAT LOW!!! So I quickly woke the house up and we put in a team effort to get 350ltrs back into the tank, then they all went to bed and left me to clean up the puddle.. So I used the wet/dry vac lol :D I now have a much shorter intake hose, it runs down about two thirds of the tanks hight now instead of sitting two inches from the substrate. The filter doesn't get as much from the bottom of the tank anymore but a bit of extra time spent with the grav vac is a small price to insure my fish don't dry out.. Also, if you don't have a wet/dry vac and your house is carpeted I highly recommend making the investment if you get the chance. :)

fun stuff,,, right up there with the overflow!! the opposite of the over drain, done this a few time also, not fish threatening, but not great for the carpet. over flowed the 180 2 or 3 times, the 145 at least once. and a few other tanks. aint happened again in over a year, (knock on wood).

Yeah, my house still smells like fish water. I'd gotten enough out of the carpet for it to dry out but apparently didn't use enough 'no vac' to get the smell out properly.. Anyone know how to get "tank smell" out of shag carpet? Google's almost useless without using oils that my cats don't like. :/
