put a fan on it and let it dry, it will go away.
 
if you have a carpet extractor that helps. every time the tanks over flowed was a reason to go ahead and extract the carpet while there.
 
you may know them as a carpet shampooer. same thing. I do my own carpets.
 
How long will that take? It's already dry but still smells horribly like fish/cat (I have a male Manx with a form of spina bifida that makes him unable to tell when he needs to use the kitty tray until its to late) I can usually keep the smell from him to a bare minimal but fish water makes me realise that I need to invest in a steam cleaner as well. :)
 
not long, day or so.
 
any smell is coming from the carpet pad, not the carpet itself, this needs to dry out also.
