Just set this up on a 30 gallon...took all of 15 minutes to do...

1. Secure spart parts from crappy penguin filter (bio wheel, brackets)
2. Trim about 1" off the bio wheel material and reconnect plastic end pieces.
3. Trim about 1" off the stick that runs through the bio wheel.
4. Silicone brackets into position so the wheel sits in the flow of the output of the filer.
5. Enjoy your quiet, quality, supercharged w/d aquaclear power filter!

This is my first DIY mod to any of my tanks...not a bad start?

Looks good!

That is freakin pimp!! THat filters value just TRIPLED!!!!

Having the little plastic brackets that the bio wheel sits in really helps. I don't know if they sell those plastic brackets individually but having those simplified the process greatly and allowed absolutely zero modification whatsoever to the actual filter housing.

I used about a pea size amount of GE Silicone I to glue them into place.

The backstory is I bought a used 30 gal tank, stand, and filter off of craigslist. I was told that everying worked - turns out the tank leaked, the hood was broken (probably the ballast) and the impeller on the Emperor 400 was bad. I don't know how some people sleep at night when they lie to people like that.

I had to reseal the aquarium (not fun, but pretty easy) and buy a new filter. I started with a Penguin 200 just to try the bio wheel out, and the filter didn't flow water like I'd like it to, was very loud, and can't hold anywhere near the amount of media that AC filters can. So, I exhanged it for an AC-70 instead. We'll see how the bio-wheel works long-term, but its running great so far. I have 2 sponges and 2 packs of bio media in the AC, plus the bio wheel...

dang dude that is asome i think i'll do that for my ac when i get it with my x-mas money that is a bio load for what 80g now...lol
