Can I use seashells from the beach (Collected 5 years ago) For my shell dwelling cichlid (black alvus) to hide in. I have been either soaking them or rinsing them constantly for about a week. I think it may raise my PH or water hardness but two 6" shells is all I need. My PH is 8.2 for my african cichlids and already pretty hard.

I keep shells in FW, But my pH is around 6.2, so I need it higher.

I see . I am wondering how much effect it might have. 2 6" shells

Those two shells shouldnt have much if any effect.

nice , the black alvus should enjoy them .

Seems ok to me. I wouldn't think those two shells would make much of a difference. I've seen ac substrate made out of crushed/broken shells. eco complete I think was the name.

I once collected a bunch of empty land snail shells and used them after cleaning them.

nice! im still gonna soak them another 2 days and they are going in. Thanks everyone.
