quick Uaru question

Would 3-4 Uaru be okay for life in a 94 gal tank, footprint 60x18?

This would be a Uaru only tank. My wife wants a big tank in bedroom and my 125 won't fit and she is dead set on having my Uaru.

So would it work??
 
It'll work, but are you sure you can't get a different foot print? They make 60 x 24" fish tanks! :) Its still a pretty good sized tank, and as long as you don't cram it with other fish you should be fine. Since they are vegetarians (haha) they shouldn't produce as much waste and the like. So yeah! NAIL IT!

4 will be ok for the first year at least. But once a pair forms, you may have some trouble. Its best to have 4 rather than 3 though as two will most likley pair up(same sex or not) and pick at the last remaining one. with 4, this probely wouldnt happen, at least not a same sex pair, but rather act like small colony. I have seven uaru in the same tank(only a 92gal) the largest is 7-8inches, 2 are 5-6inches, and 4 are 2inches. all get along great with no problems at all. but when i only had 3, two paired up and picked on the remaining one. So thats why i say go with 4 not 3.
 
I only plan on keeping two to be honest. Just to get a mated pair, then the rest will get a new tank or sold. A 92gal tank is far too small for seven uaru. i would need at least a 180-240 for all 7.
You can do 3 uaru if you want, but you will have the issues i had with only 3 most likly. 4 or more is better with uaru.
Also uaru are not the fastest growers, Mine have grown on average 1/2 - 3/4 an inch per month, but slow down in growth around the five inch mark.
The reason mine are all different sizes is because i got them at 3 month intervals from 3 different sources to get a wider gene pool. In the case that they are all from the same parents, at least they are from different spawns, so i should be able to get a good pair producing healthy fry.

i noticed this with my uaru. they seem to have really slowed down at the 4" mark and they still have faint juvenile spots. the black triangle is getting bolder but i was getting a tad worried that they may be poorly or bad genes cos they didnt seem to be growing much.
thanks for clearing that up mate.
 
I wouldn't recommend buying three Uaru, go for four or more as others have mentioned. I purchased a trio all around 12cm in size, within two days of being in my tank two killed the third fish.
