Quick! Where to put heat pad for beardie!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ok well it is off for the moment. Puttin the beardie in tank now. I compromised since we don't have a stand to keep the heat pad off until we get one.

Hey Flap, Varanio knows his stuff, he wouldn't steer you in the wrong direction. Definitely stick with just the lamps. You should have one with a red heat bulb for at night too if you don't have one of those ceramic heat emitters.

Ya I have another lamp for at night. I don't know how to tell my step mom that we don't need it. Maybe I can just show her this thread. Well I'm uploading pics if anyone wants to see them.

Some of those "lizard" starter kits out there are crap. They give you tanks that are too small and sometimes I even see that they come with heat rocks which are a big no, no in my book. In other words, they give you a lot of stuff that you won't or shouldn't need. Just hide the heat pad in your closest or something, lol!

LOL! Ya I dunno what to do about it. Pictures!!!

Wow, nice beardie! He looks really fat and healthy. The ones I usually see in Petsmart or any other chain store look dehydrated and are on the thin side.

Thanks. There were 3 at petco and I saw a glimpse of orange on a log and I said he's the one. So I got him and him being healthy was a plus. She said he always eats a lot so I'm assuming I made a good choice. How do you tell if porker is a male or female.
If I had 2 of em it was gonna be piggly and wiggly but I only have one so its porker.

I'm not really sure how to tell the sexes apart in young dragons. I've never kept them before but I believe the adult males have hemipenal bulges on either side of the base of the tail near the vent. Females lack these. I'm sure someone familiar with them like Varanio will tell you how too seeing how he does breeds them.

you could buy a heating pad from a thrift store that are used for people.

they are very safe and pretty durable.

jsut place it under the lamp so he can be heated from top and bottom

or

you could have it on the opposite side of the heatlamp, and run a timer to turn it on when the day lamp goes off.

that way he can have a warm place to sleep at night.

he might not figure it out first but patience and it will be become part of his daily habits.
