Has anyone used this sand? I just saw it at Home Depot today. Its a darker sand than pool filter sand, more like a darkish grey/brown. It seemed like it could be a very nice color for aquariums, I was just wondering if anyone had used it before?

The bag did say something about silica, although I don't remember exactly...

I will dig up the link (will have to find it) but I have heard nothing but bad things about the "all purpose sand" The only sand I've heard good things about from this manufacturer (I have it in 2 tanks of my own too) is the "media sand" brown bag, green label.

My dad has some bags left over and they say the same things and fit your description. I'll try to get some pics up. I remember it saying it does have silica but if I recall I think its's ok if it does.

i used playsand for like 3 months it was the worst 3 months of my life.. it kept turnin black ans smellin like a sewer.. i was cleanin and movin the sand around every week.. i took that junk out...

Read the Use For instructions
Many of these specifically say not for aquarium use
I tend to not use things that specifically say not for aquarium use

The community has a lot of experience with different kinds of sand
Take the advice or leave it:

PFS is the low cost, clean, low maintanence, fish safe, asthetically pleasing sand solution

Hmm dont know but thats the same color as the pool filter sand i just got from my LPS.

I've got pool filter sand in 2 of my tanks, and while I really like it, I was wanting to get something a little darker than that for this new tank.

I've used play sand before and will never use it again. I ended up with both of my overflows half filled with sand, and almost an inch of sand on the bottom of my sump. It chewed up the impellers on both my pumps, and clogged the heck out of my filter media.

Ghostshrimpman, that is the exact sand I'm talking about. It is a little darker than PFS, but not black like my Tahitian Moon Sand.

I'm just looking for a slightly darker sand substrate without shelling out $30-40 a bag...
