I will dig up the link (will have to find it) but I have heard nothing but bad things about the "all purpose sand" The only sand I've heard good things about from this manufacturer (I have it in 2 tanks of my own too) is the "media sand" brown bag, green label.

I'll have to look tonight to see if they have any of that.

JK, where do you get your lapis lustre sand from? I know that looks nice, and its a little bit darker than PFS, right?

This is the sand Im using, you just have to wash the sand very very very thoroughly in small batches.

out in the garden section they have paving sand which is basically the same thing but bigger grain.

I pay an LFS a way marked up price ($0.50 per lbs) for mine. I like the place so I want to see em stay open. Its nicer IMO, yes darker and heavier grain than PFS. Caye's on Division st in Portland OR has the Lapis Lustre #1C (what I use) The Wet Spot on Sandy blvd in Portland OR has the Lapis Lustre blasting sand. It's a smaller grain size. Clockwork can tell you the name better than me.

These are a couple pics Modest_Man took of my fish/tanks. It shows the sand better than my pics. First three are Lapis Lustre #1C, the last pic is Quickrete "media" sand. Best pics I can find sorry.

Any experience with the all-purpose as I want to see if I could use these bags..

I have it in my tank right now, but I just put it in so I don't know anything about how it will react, aside from the fact that you have to rinse it really well.

Here's a quick pic I just took.

The shadow in the middle is the from my glass lid.

That doesn't look like its any different color from Pool Filter Sand or play sand though. The stuff I saw at my Home Depot was considerably darker... maybe they have several colors?

I'm thinking I might just go with PFS though, for 2 reasons:

1. I already have a full bag just sitting around collecting dust.
2. I'm thinking about ordering a DBN background, and I'll want the lighter sand to keep the tank from being too dark (it's a 20L).
