Nothing better than a Eheim 2260 or 2262. Trust me quiet, and realiable. My are 10-20 years old and no problems

above suggestions are good. I use an fx6, can't hear it with your head right next to it.

I also have the FX5 which is no different than the 6 and I agree it is very quiet. But I still feel the Eheim is a better filter and the media last a lifetime as opposed to the FX5 and 6 media

I use mine purely for bio with lava rock lol, I leave the mech to the HOB filters on the tank.

I have Eheim pro2 2028 and fx6. Eheim is more quiet. Heard newer Eheim might b slightly louder. You are good with the classic series

Agree. The best way to use both is canister for bio only and never have to clean it, and Hob for mechanical for its simplicity in cleaning.

I also use RID-X in all my tanks. I barely have to clean my HOBS either.

Can't beat an Eheim for quiet no matter what you get. I have a 2250 old school filter with the pump removed and placed in my sump....but when it wasn't "repurposed" and strictly bio (it's got like 3 1/2g of effi sub pro) you can't hear it run.....seriously.
My 2080 can't be heard either and I have to touch it to even tell if its on. Eheim is rated properly in my opinion, but some people want more turnover and more flow than any Eheim can put out, so additional circulation may be what you want...Hydor Koralia prop style circ pumps are also silent.

my sump on my 240 is quieter than my sunsun and fx5. it makes noise when it is time to change the filter sock.
