i have a 60g whisper overhanging filter that sounds like a jet engine. how do i make it quieter? i cant even sleep at night. what are some filter models that are quiet? i was thinking of a penguin underwater filter on either side for my 55gallon.

The 3 Aqueon Quietflows I have actually live up to their name! They are incredibly quiet. My XP3s and Eheim 2217 are also very quiet as well.

i was thinking of going with aqua clear because of their lifetime warranties. my whisper wasnt loud three years ago its just old.

I've owned many different brands of HOB filters and almost all of them start off quit but sooner or later get loud as hell. The ones I've had the most luck with however staying quit are the emperor 400's. Don't get me wrong they to can get loud but out of the ones I've had they seem to stay quiet the longest. If you want something that will stay quit I suggest getting a canister filter.

if hob is how u wanna go id do tha aqueon ive got tha 55 on my 40gl n its super quiet n performs great.
if not hob stepup n do tha eheim canister mine in my salt tank is so quiet i cant hear it

nice i dont really like canisters even though i will need one when i upgrade. i think i just need a new filter. the one i have is like four years old. more money i have to spend to keep a measly 55 up and running. i gotta go big soon so at least my money would be worth it.

If you're gonna need one when you upgrade why not get one now? Get an eheim that would work for your future tank

For HOB I like the Aqueon filters. You can cut some sponge to replace that blue spill zone thing to make them even quieter. The one on my son's tank is absolutely silent.

I have tried the Aquaclears and my AC110 was so noisy it now lives in the garage. My AC50 is better but still not as quiet as my Aqueon filter.

If you do want to go canister the Eheim is quieter than the Fluval. I run a Fluval 405 and an Eheim 2217 and really don't like the fact I can hear the motor on the Fluval.
