I just installed my first Quiet One 4000 pump into a wet/dry filter. The unit came with a couple of 1" to 3/4" reducers. Are most of you using a 3/4" hose, or 1"? I'm presently using 3/4" hose, but believe the pump would be more efficient using 1" because this is what the outlet size is. Also, do you attach the rubber feet if the pump is submerged in a wet/dry? I didn't expect to hear the humming sound being I've read so many good reviews of how quite these pumps are. There may be a litttle rattling going on in there which I may need to check.
Thanks!

For size; I have (2) 4000's in my sump, both using 1" PVC. You should have less overall head lose with 1" over 3/4". If your worried about efficienty, you might also considering losing the hose/barb fittings (ie: 1" barbs have a smaller inner diameter than 1" PVC fittings).

For feet; I place the pumps on coarse foam anyway, to reduce noise against the sump.

For noise; The pump itself (ie: when disconnected from my plumping) is relatively quite compared to any other 1000gph pumps I've heard, although not to be confused with silent, like Eheims pumps tend to be. I also use a 2' length of spa-flex tube (connects direclty from pump to PVC - no barbs) to reduce vibration, but I still get some, which is most of the sound I hear.

Overall; it's one of those relative things; you think the pump is louder than it should be, but then you hear other pumps of equal GPH, and you're glad you have the Quite one. Although at some future point I'll probably experiment with Eheim's hobby pumps, to see if their as silent as their canisters, if they are, it would be worth the price.

I use 1" barb and 1" hose. I haven't had a problem with flow.

In my experience. Danner Mag drive and Quiet one pumps are the best for submersed application. Stay away from the Quiet one 9000 though, loudest pump I have ever heard.

I have to agree with tunerx, the Quiet One 9000 will make you say things out loud in mixed company that you would not usually say. Mine is now collecting dust in the basement.

my 4000s are on rubber feet with 1" hose. Great flow, very very quiet.

the 9000 is loud, but I love it's flow rate and power consumption. It's in my fish room, so the splashing water drowns it out. Not a good pump for show tanks though.

I've just set-up my 180 with w/d with this pump, and couldn't be happier. Mine is installed with the 1" barb / flex pipe to get out from under the stand, then connect to 1" pvc to distribute. The flow through this system still seems a bit slow (as I split it into 2-1" return lines), but everything seems to be running fine for now.

why what's wrong with the 3/4?

The quiet one was built with a 1" outlet. They must have done that for a reason. You can reduce the size and increase outlet pressure and back pressure without any ill effects, except a little bit of reduced flow.

yes you must put the rubber feet or else it will rattle. Use the 1" adapter, more flow. Its a great pump I use it on my saltwater tank and it has not given me any problems in about 18 months now.
