I god this external pump so I could make some room for a protein skimmer. Ever since I turned the thing on yesterday it's been anything but quite. It's really really loud, and occasionally it will sound like someone feed a bucket full of sand into it. Anyone ever have any luck with one of these? I'm thinking about taking it apart and checking the impeller housing for any problems.

I've used a few of those pumps (freshwater). I never had any issues with them until age got to them. I would take it apart and check for sand/dirt in the impeller housing.

Like Pharaoh said, i'd take it apart and check it out.. I run 3 different Quiet One pumps on my tank and don't have any problems.. But i run all of mine submerged and "not" external.

Hmm. Will do.

Just about the only thing I gained from taking that thing apart was a wet floor, bubble ridden tank, and minus one roll of paper towel.

The pump is still loud, except now it's putting micro bubbles in the tank. Not sure if they are coming from the skimmer or not but the skimmer has a bubble difuser so I don't think so.

This really ticks me off. That POS was like 80 dollars. :irked: The last LifeGuard pump I buy that's for sure. What do I do now that my tank is covered in bubbles.

sounds like the impeller is not good or the shaft for the impeller is bad I would clean it good and if it keeps up get it replaced

I agree... something is now right. If you bought this thing new, call Quiet One and complain. They will send you a new one to replace it. I've never really had those kind of problems out of my quiet ones. Although, I have always run them internally.

Nothing seems wrong with the impeller or shaft.

Mine isnt very old at all and its anything but quiet. There was a post on another forum about quiet ones and most all of the people complained about the same kind of noise we are having. New name is " Notsoquietoneatall"
