It all gets sucked up. Question is is how fast does it settle out and will i have to replace it a lot?

It does get sucked up, but once settled it stays that way until you go moving it around a whole bunch, or dump a lot of water in w/o breaking the splash over a plate or something.

As teh other guy said, use pool filter sand. Just a hair bit heavier, settles much quicker and basically can fall out of a small siphon tube if it is lifted a few inches above the bottom

none of the pool stores have the right sand
and im already used to cleaning a tank with sand, so ill be good. and i hear lots of good things about this sand. i was just making sure i got the right one

yeah tht will work just be careful and pull your intakes up..

My pool stores didn't have any either. I got mine from Ace hardware... You can get some from home depot as well.

Both of those quickcrete sands are fine. I have used the fine white stuff in all of my tanks. Its actually is pretty heavy for how fine it is.

Once it settles it is fine. You basically have to touch it with the siphon to suck it up.

I had it in with rays also. I had an fx5 on the tank along with a wet dry and never found sand in either of them. I also never modified the length of the intake on the fx5 either.

So if you like the looks of either of them then I say go for it.

did the play sand get picked up? i might do a mix of the white and the play or some black sand and the play
im going to keep 1 or 2 rays so should i got the fine?
i will be running 2 or 3 xp3 filters
