It rarely ever got sucked up, and it is so fine, that if it did, it just passed right through and didn't even bother the propeller.

I would just go with the fine if you like the color of it. The only down side is that it sticks to the rays. It they want it off though all they have to do is give a good shake and it all comes off.
 
is the sand i have right now good for rays? i dont feel like returning it, but getting more if that isnt enough sand

Not really sure. I know that the fine sand is smooth and doesn't contain any silica in it, so it won't irritate the rays unerbelly. Plus I kept rays on that sand and have personal experience with it and the rays never had any problem being on it.

From what I remember, the other sand seemed to be a bit more course and sharp. I also don't know if it contains silica or not. So with that, I can't really say if it is safe for rays or not.
