Quikwall Cement tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Wow, I am dying for some pics of this thing. Take a camera when you go. Did he go through the salt curing process or did he just toss fish in?

Another question if you don't mind... is the fiberglass that you were talking about fiberglass strands in the concrete mix or did he add a layer of fiberglass over the concrete after it was poured?

There was another thread like this either here or on another fish site. It was about a guy from Greenland or Iceland that built a concrete pond/fish tank in his basement. It was built in permanantly.

Ok, I investigated his tank Friday and Saturday. He made the tank with the quikwall by quikcrete and used drylok paint on it. (I found the can of paint in his garage) he used ge silicone to mount a styrafoam background he had made to the back. Now I made a UGF out of 1 inch pvc Pipe and nylon screen glued together in the tank shape with 1 inch pipe risers every 18 inches with a wavemaker powerhead hidden by the background. The pipe is sealed and I drilled holes in the pipe to suck water in thru it as the UGF. I dont have a digital camera handy my wife took it someplace and didnt bring it back lol. Next week he is having a cover installed that makes it easier to work with. I am currently doing his wet/dry and other minor "toys" I am debating a uv sterilizer at the moment. I do have an old autowater top off kit I am giving him in return for some trades. The equipment is already in the shed against his wall and we painted it to match the house, we also drilled the holes for the plumbing. He has an older RO unit he removed because it didnt make enough water for his taste that I get to install for him on the autowater top off for the sump. I will see if I can get some pictures from another friend who I think has a digi camera. We got hungry Sat, so I caught the catfish and being mean, cooked it and fed the 3 of us lol. I have arranged for another "fish friend" to trade some minor house repair for some of his "extra" fish. We so far have arranged for 2 clown knifes, several crayfish, several species of ciclids, a monster pleco, and numerous communty fish. I have a sneaky suspision the crayfish will quickly become knive food, as well as the non-agro fish.

This story is way too good to just let it die without going further. I just gotta know how the thing tasted. You didn't mention that. And for it being a monster three feet, was it tough due to size and age or was it tender from being confined to the tank? I have wondered this many sleepless nights.

And pics, we need pics!

I am happy to see someone from my area with a large tank. I graduated from Belton High in '91. I am now in Tikrit, Iraq for the next few months. Planning on a large DIY plywood tank built into the wall of our new home.

Post #3 - I can almost see the pics.

Looking for another thread, I ran across this one. It is total BS. I was hoping the guy would stick around long enough to realize he was making an A55 out of himself.
