I've been preparing to get a monitor around 3-4 feet for a while now and i'm interested in the Quince and the Dumeril's. I find the Quince to be a very attractive looking monitor, it appears very dragon-like. But I've heard Quince Monitors typically are not quite as friendly as Dumeril's. I would also like to get a male Quince but that seems to be unlikely to happen considering no one can tell the difference between males and females. Finally I originally intended on getting a Dumeril's, the Dumeril's seems to have a reputation for being rather more likely to become tame than the Quince and I can get a male when hatchlings become available next spring but I find the Quince to be a nicer looking monitor. So what do you guys think I should do, what is your opinion?

It would actually be really helpful if some one could tell me where I could get a male quince, because despite the fact that they don't have a very good reputation for becoming social-able pets, I would actually not mind if the lizard never tamed down. I've had a Peacock for almost a year now and I've been working to tame him but he really doesn't like me but i'm cool with that. So I could take some lip from a Quince as well.

I'd say get the quince. My favourite monitors, amazing creatures! Monitors will never completely tame down anyway given they are kept at the right temperatures and on a good diet. (Obesity makes them slow).

Just PM A. gigas. He obsesses over this stuff, and could answer all your questions.

Theres alot of conflicting imformation in your post, but......

Pick the one you like the looks of best, the one that appeals to you most.
I would never choose a certain specie of monitor lizard to keep, based around the idea that I can turn it into a "tame" friendly, sociable pet.
Most monitors that are healthy and thriving will naturally be a little aloof and defensive.
