Alright I have my 240 up and running, testing everything right now actually. Since this is the first time I have had things running, it seems to me that my pump is a little noisey. It seems to have a fair amount of vibration. Even if I pick it up and have it suspended in the water its still pretty loud, is it just me or is this how they run? Also what is the quietest running pump? Thanks guys

It sounds like something may be off balance. Sometimes my pumps will buzz for a few seconds and then go back to being quiet again. Is the pump drawing any air in, becuase that can make a pretty loud noise as well.

Actually I figured it out. My return hose, which is 1" vynil tubing, was just ever-so-barely touching the back of my stand. I did have a rag wrapped around it there but I am going to take like a bungie cord and suspend it in the whole, thus no more noise. The little bit of vibration/noise the pump was making was just being amplified by the plywood of the stand. Thanks for you help though!!

Alright, now that I got that noise to quiet down I hear a new one. This one is like a "ticking" fast the impeller might be rattleing. If I turn the pump off and the start it back up it goes away for awhile, but give it a few minutes and its back. Any ideas on this one?

That's what my pump used to do. How old is your pump? Maybe it needs to break in like a car engine.

It is brand new, so that might be the problem. Just needs its break-in period.

I a quiet one shouldnt make any noise even when it's new. I would take it apart and see if anything is in the impeller housing.

I think I am going to do that just to make sure. I should order a back up pump for down the road as well.
